Of our three reprints this month, two are books that have been out of print for several years. The first isal-Mawardi’sAl-Ahkam as-Sultaniyyah: The Laws of Islamic Governance translated by Dr Asadullah Yate. At first glance you might be forgiven for thinking that this was a book for the niche reader or academic. Indeed I thought, when I started proofreading it, that it would be a dry and dense read, but I was really pleasantly surprised and glad to have read it.

In our everyday lives, we are so focussed on the acts of worship that are relevant to us, that we forget what a wonderfully comprehensive and beautifully encompassing framework Islam actually provides us. This beautiful translation allows us to see that totality, of which we are a privileged part.

We are also delighted to bring back into The Presence of Islam in Andalus by Barrister Ahmad Thomson and the late Colonel ‘Ata-ur-Rahim. Meticulously researched, this book presents the fascinating history, not just of Islam in Andalus itself, but the background of Christianity in Europe from the eighth century CE onwards. This is the definitive read on the subject.

The Forty Hadith of Imam Nawawi translated by Abdassamad Clarke, is one of our staple classics having first been printed in 1998 and it has not been out of print since. This is the fourth revised edition of the book and has been brought out in a beautiful foil embossed hardback to add to this essential reading experience.
