Dr. Jamal-un-Nisa Bint Rafai - The Passing of a True Legend
Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilayhi Raji'oon - From Allah we arrived and to Allah we will return.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing away of Dr. Jamal-un-Nisa Bint Rafai Siddiqui, the wife of Mr Afsar Siddiqui and the mother of Abia Afsar Siddiqui, in the early hours of Sunday 18th October 2020, surrounded by her family.
She and her husband were the founders of Ta-Ha Publishers, back in 1980 and contributed towards its development throughout the years. She was also the author of the landmark 'The Qur'an: Translation & Study Juz' series of books (https://tahapublishers.com/search.asp?search=Study+Juz) and also the author of the children's Islamic Quiz book series (https://tahapublishers.com/search.asp?search=quiz). She also edited and compiled the Al-Furqan Newsletter, which was published and freely distributed by Taha Publishers throughout the 80s and 90s.
Dr. Jamal-un-Nisa spent her every waking hour in the service of the community, teaching Islamic and Qur'anic studies, in her own house and in other locations around South West London. Women like her are rare gems, who appear once in a generation. Not one to boast about her knowledge or attention seeking or spending time in idle talk and gossip, Dr. Jamal-un-Nisa was a disciplined and focussed lady, who from an early age had supported her own family after the death of her father and completed a PhD in Zoology and spent her life learning and teaching, inspiring others and training a whole generation of teachers of Islam who went on to teach others in their own families and communities.
We pray that Allah, The Most High, continues the legacy of Dr. Jamal-un-Nisa and brings forth a new generation of teachers and cultivators of the community, who can match the efforts and work of this truly inspirational lady. Ameen
May Allah, The Most High, Forgive her shortcomings, Magnify her Deeds, Widen her Grave, Fill it with Noor (light), Make her Questioning Easy and Enter her into Firdaus Al-'Aala (The Highest and Most Blessed Rank of Paradise). Ameen.
